Appearance

Androgynous to fairly boyish in appearance. Most people think her a boy at first, except the very observant, which Kino doesn't correct as it makes travelling easier.

A white shirt, worn grey slacks, an army green fitted jacket with pockets and a hip belt for ammunition and to holster her weapons, covered by a yellow (and also worn) overcoat and sensible boots. A padded hat with earflaps and goggles ensure she rides without inconvenience.

One word comes to mind when you see her, and it's "traveller".

History:

Kino has been a traveller since she was 12, journeying across her world with a (mostly) intelligent talking motorrad, a Brough Superior motorcycle names Hermes

Kino was once a young girl living normally in a country called The Land of Adults. One day a traveller came to her country and stayed at her parents inn, befriending the young girl. Kino explained to the traveller that the land was called the Land of Adults because at the age of 12, all children underwent surgery to turn them into proper functioning adults who would do their jobs even if they disliked them.

The traveller gave Kino ideas about the outside world- and how different other countries were. When she admitted to her parents (in public) that she was afraid of having her surgery, they became violent, fearing the townspeople's reaction around them. They told the traveller to leave, and attempted to kill Kino to save themselves the scorn of their country. The traveller saved Kino's life, but lost his own in the process. While Kino's parents attempted to turn on her, she escaped on the traveller's newly repaired Motorrad (Hermes) and fled the country.

Kino stayed for a time with a woman marksman who lived in the woods and who taught Kino how to protect herself. Eventually Kino left to travel the world on her own with Hermes as her companion, visiting countries and never staying more than two nights and three days, just as the traveller once had.

Hermes proved to be more of an asset than simply a means to escape: he became her friend, and only confidante. Their relationship is a deep friendship, but also a partnership that’s allowed them both to live. Without Kino, Hermes would rust away and ‘die’, and without Hermes, Kino would not be able to travel – and though she would never admit it, without his company on the road she’d likely have gone mad.

Personality:
Kino is a quiet girl, with a genuine interest in people and places and history. She wants to know, but at the same time is afraid to grow attached to anything, hence her self-imposed rule to stay no more than three days in any place. She tells Hermes that three days is all anyone needs to learn about a place, but admits that this is probably a lie.

Kino is very self aware of her choices and decisions, and why she makes them. She actively makes choices to move, help, ignore or thwart people. At the end of the day, no matter what she’s seen, she still believes the world is beautiful. When asked- even after seeing a country slaughter innocents for their personal gain, she says “People are the most beautiful things in this world.”
Thus, Kino can be considered a very reserved optimist.

Kino is quite polite, and very easy going. She is willing to try almost anything, and takes most people (or at least appears to) at face value. Many underestimate her because of her apparent youth, which Kino accepts with a rather good-natured amusement.

Abilities:
Kino is a sharpshooter and exceptional quickdraw, perhaps one of the very best in her world. She awakes before dawn every morning to practice without fail. She’s also very skilled with knives, both throwing and fighting. Despite her skill at physical fighting, her size and light weight puts her at a disadvantage, so she does her best to discourage fighting in close quarters. Kino dislikes the killing of anything, even animals, so she will do everything in her power to finish a conflict without fatally wounding someone.

That said, when matters force her hand, she will not hesitate to shoot a man point blank.

Kino can hunt, fish, sing, ride a motorcycle, do skilful machine and artillery repairs, and is excellent in surviving in tough conditions and exploring and mapping areas.
